A Founder’s Letter on Standards

Why Two Marines Moving Runs on Standards—Not Motivation

To anyone considering joining Two Marines Moving,

I want to be clear about something from the start.

We are not a motivation‑based company.

We do not rely on hype, pep talks, or emotional momentum to get through the day. Motivation is useful—but it is temporary. It comes and goes with sleep, weather, stress, and life.

Standards remain.

That belief comes straight out of the Marine Corps, where I spent six years learning that leadership does not depend on how someone feels—it depends on what they are trained and expected to do.

Since November 10, 2008, when Two Marines Moving was founded, that same belief has guided how this company operates.

Motivation Is Unreliable. Standards Are Not.

In the Marine Corps, you are not asked if you feel motivated.

You are expected to:

  • Show up on time
  • Be prepared
  • Do your job
  • Take responsibility
  • Maintain professionalism

Whether you feel like it or not.

That is not harsh.
That is liberating.

When standards are clear, people don’t have to guess. They don’t have to perform emotionally. They don’t have to wait to feel inspired.

They just execute.

Standards Create Trust

At Two Marines Moving, our standards create trust in three directions:

  • Between teammates
  • Between leaders and crews
  • Between our company and our customers

Trust comes from consistency.

Consistency comes from standards.

That looks like:

  • Fair scheduling
  • Clear expectations
  • Professional appearance
  • Calm decision‑making
  • Accountability without drama
  • Leaders who model what they expect

Those are not personality traits.
They are behaviors.

This Is How Leadership Works Here

Leadership at Two Marines Moving is not about charisma.

It is about:

  • Doing the right thing when it’s inconvenient
  • Making decisions and owning them
  • Treating people fairly
  • Protecting the team and the mission
  • Maintaining standards when no one is watching

That is what leadership training in the Marine Corps actually produces—and it is what we expect here.

If you need motivation to show up on time, this may not be the right environment.

If you respect standards and take pride in execution, you will feel at home quickly.

Why the Right People Thrive Here

People who thrive at Two Marines Moving tend to share a few traits:

  • They don’t need to be chased
  • They don’t need excuses made for them
  • They don’t confuse flexibility with lack of standards
  • They understand that consistency beats intensity
  • They want to be part of something that runs cleanly

Veterans recognize this immediately.
So do many civilians who have operated in disciplined environments—sports, trades, logistics, leadership roles.

The common thread is not background.

It’s respect for standards.

What We Don’t Do

We don’t:

  • Manage feelings
  • Lower the bar to keep people comfortable
  • Replace accountability with slogans
  • Tolerate passive‑aggressive behavior
  • Confuse effort with execution

That isn’t because we lack empathy.

It’s because standards are the most respectful form of leadership there is. They tell people exactly where they stand.

This Is the Deal

If you work here, you can expect:

  • Clear expectations
  • Fair treatment
  • Leaders who show up prepared
  • Standards that apply to everyone—including leadership
  • An environment built for professionals

In return, we expect:

  • Accountability
  • Discipline
  • Professionalism
  • Team‑first execution
  • Pride in doing the job right

That’s the agreement.

Why I’m Writing This

After publishing dozens of pieces about leadership, service, logistics, training, and careers, it’s important to say this plainly:

Everything you’ve read traces back to one idea.

Standards are the operating system.

Not motivation.
Not personality.
Not volume.

Standards.

The Invitation

If you are looking for a place where:

  • The bar is clear
  • Leadership is modeled
  • Standards are enforced calmly
  • Effort is respected, but execution matters more

Then Two Marines Moving may be the right place for you.

If you need motivation to perform, there are other environments better suited to that.

We run on standards.

Always have.
Always will.
